Hopefully I can get a better and longer recording of this because the sound has genuinely tricked me in the past (along with faux microwave beeps). Caiques tend to be better at sound effects than human speech. He makes these water sounds when he looks out the window in the morning and predicts rain later. He’s got a decent rate of accuracy. Sometimes he does a little dance at the sky too. “Caique” is supposedly an old Tupi (indigenous Brazilian) word meaning “water bird” or “aquatic bird.” Caiques can’t swim though. I always wonder if they mimicked water back when the Tupi people were around, or if they did little dances and weather forecasts at the sky like Apo. Often he wakes up and greets the sky with a fake regurgitation motion (affectionate bird gesture). Were the Tupi people like, wtf is this bird who can’t swim but is obsessed with water?
